Important Bannock Disclaimer

Disclaimer: It is very important to remember that Bannock and Frybread are highly and I mean highly addictive. If you get addicted to it don’t say I didn’t warn you.

You can use what ever you have handy for fat. Olive oil, butter, margarine, bacon grease, shortening, pan drippings whatever will work. The liquid can be water or milk.
You can add eggs or leave them out. You can also cook it top of the stove in a heavy covered skillet.


BANNOCK

4 cups of flour
1/3 cup of sugar or honey (optional) (if you use honey add a little more flour)
5 tsps of baking powder (rounded)
1 tsp of salt
2/3 cup lard
Approx. 1 ½ cups of milk (You can use one or two eggs as part of the 1 ½ cups of liquid)
Combine dry ingredients
Stir in fat
Add liquid until the dough is soft but sticky.

Form into an oval loaf.

With a sharp knife, make a two slashes down the middle length ways, and two more cross ways.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
